As discussed in last post, we can configure all roles present in vCAV-C2C in a single appliance for Lab/POC deployment. In my lab I am going ahead with small deployment to have a general understanding of this product before doing distributed deployment.
In my lab I have 2 sites and each site is configured with following components:
1: vSphere/vCenter Server 6.5 U2
2: vCloud Director 9.0
3: VMware NSX 6.3.6
vSphere and vCD is fully configured and Org/Org vDC’s are in place n both sites with external network etc configured.
Let’s start the deployment with Site-A.
Deployment of VCAV-C2C appliance is straight forward and steps are shown in below slideshow.
Once appliance deployment completes and it boots up, it will give you information on how to connect to appliance for further configuration.
Configure vCloud Availability Replicator
To configure vCloud Availability Replicator role, connect to https://VCAV-FQDN:8043 and click on link under Additional Resources
Login with root credentials set during deployment.
Change the appliance root password and hit Next.
Register replicator service with lookup service and hit next.
Accept lookup service certificate.
Hit finish to complete the Replicator service configuration.
Under diagnostics tab make sure everything is showing green.
Configure vCloud Availability Replication Manager
To configure Replication Manager, connect to https://VCAV-FQDN:8044 and click on link under Additional resources.
Login via root credentials.
Navigate to configuration page.
Goto “Set lookup service” tab and punch in your lookup service address and hit OK.
Accept lookupservice certificate.
You will be redirected to main page. Under diagnostics tab make sure everything is green.
Configure vApp Replication Manager Server
Connect to https://VCAV-FQDN:8046 and click on link under Additional Resources.
Login with root credentials.
Provide name and optional description for site and hit Next.
Register vApp Replication Manager to lookupservice and hit Next.
Accept lookup service certificate.
On Setup Manager page, punch in IP of applaince where Replication Manager role is configured. In you are doing a “combined mode” deployment then you can leave this field blank as every role will be configured in same appliance.
Accept the Manager certificate.
On Setup vCloud Director page, enter your vcd details and punch in the admin credentials of vCD. Make sure to append /api after vCD-FQDN/IP
Accept vCD certificate.
On Summary page, review your settings and hit finish.
On diagnostics page make sure everything looks green.
Configure vCloud Availability Portal
To configure vCloud Availability Portal connect to https://vcav-fqdn:5480 and login via root credentials.
Under Home page, you will see vCD and vApp Replication manager status as red.
To fix this navigate to vApp RM tab.
Make sure vApp RM Endpoint is set to https://localhost:8046.
Punch in vCD admin credentials and click on connect. If everything is configured correctly so far, you will see the successful connection for vApp RM.
Click on test button to ensure Test Results shows green. Click on Done to finish the test.
Once vApp RM connection is successful and test is passed, apply the configuration changes.
Navigate to Setup Wizard > Database Connection and select (optional) “Enable reconfiguration” and click on Test button.
Hit Next if DB connect test is successful.
On Portal Service Configuration page click on Start Service button.
A new window will popup which shows the progress of service restart. Once configuration is applied and running process status is green, click on Done.
Navigate back to Home page and verify all server/service status is showing green.
With this configuration of primary site is completed.
Repeat the same steps for Site-B
And that’s it for this post. In next post of this series I will demonstrate how to replicate vApp/VM’s between 2 vCD sites.
