What’s New in VMware Cloud Director 10.1

With the release of v10.1 yesterday, vCloud Director has been rebranded to VMware Cloud Director. In this post I will cover what does Cloud Director brings to the table.

1: vCloud Director Rebranding: Upon logging into Cloud Director UI, you will no longer see the ‘v’ of vCloud Director. vCD  has been rebranded to VMware Cloud Director.

2: RIP Flex UI: Flex UI is no longer available in Cloud Director. In vCD 10.0, flex UI was disabled by default and if needed, it can be enabled back with cell-management-tool utility.

Note: Although the same command works in 10.1 also as shown below

But even after running this command, if you try to login to flash client, you will see a page not found error.

3: H5 UI Enhancements: The H5 interface has been enhanced for a better experience.

3a: Cloud Resources and vSphere Resources are placed under Resources sub-menu.

3b: Import From vCenter option is now available for tenants in H5 ui. Earlier this was only available in flash client.

3c: From tenant view, you will see vApp/VM sub-menu is now added on the top bar making it more easier to navigate around various options.

To perform operations on multiple vApps/VM’s at once, a Multi Select toggle button is added. Enabling that button and clicking on Select All will let you to select all vApps/VM’s at once for  common operation.

A small cloud icon appearing on top right corner of  vApp lets you know which VDC this vApp is part of.

A new option called “Badges” is added at vApp level which will help tenants to categorize workloads on the basis of its nature. I have not explored this option yet but this looks interesting.

And that’s it for this post.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. Feel free to share this on social media if it is worth sharing 🙂
